Guitar Repair #488 - French Polish (Back)/ Setup/ New Bone Saddle - 2008 Manuel Rodríguez - Classical

2008 Manuel Rodríguez
The back of this guitar had a hazy finish. It seems guitars from Madrid can't get away from this, especially those of thickish plastic finishes
Removing this bullet proof finish requires brute force...
...a combination of metal scrapers and brute sandpapers..
...until one finally reach the wood..
...the whole back need to be to the bare and flat, as shellac doesn't like uneven places.
This is how hazy it was (though I've seen worse)
To get the high gloss, I had to lay enough sessions of French polishing
The photo cannot tell of its haziness that bothered the owner...
...but comparing this one, you can.
Shellac does bring out the best of the wood figure.
It's a mirror finish to match the plastic-finished sides
