From an early age, Ngoh would hear the daily practise routine of his father on the 椰胡(ye-hu), an instrument he had made. Continual exposure to repeated shrills and sometimes squeaky riffs from this little, yet yet rudely loud instrument is detrimental to one's sanity. (It's amazing how much output from a tiny soundbox!) The good thing, is that his father's skills improved quickly. So good, that he was once invited to perform in Taiwan, with his Hokkien Opera group, which he declined, due to fear of flying.
Another "annoying occupation" his father had, was making sawdust and hand-filing noise at the end of the kitchen, where he would be working in his makeshift "workshop" crafting away his own 椰胡.
Somethings are taught, somethings are caught. Ngoh now makes guitars and guitar music, his life work.
Touched by Ngoh's story, the local Chinese news programme picked it up and told his story. (13th Nov 2020). He never knew he could make it to be in TV, let alone prime time news.
