Second & successful visit to Ah Peng - the Sawyer

This morning, I decided to head down to Ah Peng @ 38 Sungei Kadut St 2.

I have been thinking of resawing and even logging myself of our local trees for the past few weeks, since last December.

But a low cost of getting someone to cut up the log, could eliminate the need for me to do it myself.

Today, a milestone in my search for local tonewoods is set!

I managed to convinced Ah Peng - the sawyer with rain tree, khaya and even mahogany ("kor ji"), on my second visit to him this morning (10:42am is the time of the clock when I returned to Gy133K.) to cut up a rain tree for my monkey pod tonewood

At first, when I asked him to quarter for me at 8 1/2" top and bottom and leaving a middle potion, he walked away, saying "it's too difficult", "no time". But I consoled him that I am not so particular about precision, he heard me further. He mentioned about the un-straightness of the trees and is particularly afraid that this might caused unhappiness on my part. Furthermore, he mentioned that since first time I am cutting, he resist the initial discussion and perfect understanding of my requirement that may risk misunderstanding or possible conflict. I must have assured him enough for him to quote me at last:-

8' rain tree, about17" diameter log, he asked for $150 per quarter, so 600 bucks for the tree. I also managed to have him cut into 4' halves.

He seemed to be surprise when I finally said yes to his quote, and when he found out that I need to ask another to resaw for me to boards, by Jesus' favour, he slashed the price on his own accord to 400 bucks! The he said that this particular log not enough or me to saw into 8 1/2" width after cutting away the bark and sap. He offered me another log one half bigger! He said just compensate me another 100 bucks. Thank You Jesus.

Whether I got a good deal or not, I appreciate the work in cutting logs and at least, and at last, I have a source to get wood from our very own trees!

Thank You, Jesus,. for Your favour all over me this morning, as I have asked in the car before I began the journey.

Lord, this year of unceasing fruitfulness, I believe, has began! Hallelujah!

Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!Hallelujah!

Lord, I ask for more & more favour, to resaw, to store, to use it in your anointed ways for our guitars and also to sell these guitar sets, as I begin our tonewood business! In Jesus' precious name, Amen.

By the way, since Sunday's service till this morning, I have been meditating on Psalms 1 (already memorised it!). Really made me a "happy" (Blessed) man! And whatever I did prospered:-

  • made up with my wife
  • felt happy (happiness I now know is not happening happen to me, but someone who's delight is in the law of the Lord!)
  • got a grip on making my headstock design on Matthias' and Guojing's guitar
  • my very first personal hunt from tree to lumber - monkey pod tonewood on the way!
